Anybody using these inks developed by Richard Wolfson?

Hi Richard

I'm using the original GQ inks in an Epson 2100. I got them primarily to
use on glossy papers as I use the Cone inks for matte.

They seem to work very well on both matte and gloss surfaces with the
provided profiles although the descriptions of the various tones achievable
are sometimes questionable - ie "platinum" looks very little like a proper
platinum print. I have suffered from roller marks on some glossy surfaces
though I'm sure that this is a printer, rather than an ink problem. I'm
still experimenting with ways of dealing with it.

When making my own profiles for glossy paper I have found it difficult to
bring in the Glop at the right point to avoid mottling in the upper-mid
tones - this is really annoying! Profiling for matte paper is no different
to doing the same with any of the MIS variable tone inksets.

I hope that this is vaguely helpful.

I worked with them at the time Richard was developing them. Definately an
improvement over the previous generation. Since they require using a RIP, and
either Richard's own profiles for each printer and media, or user tuning for each
combination, I haven't done much with them. Results, when optimized, were
excellent. But definately the road less travelled...

Hi Walt:
This is/was the problem with the original GQ inkset... their drying time was
long, and the rollers had to be raised on the 2200. MediaStreet supplied the
lifters free on request. Wolfson re-designed the inkset, re-named it GQ 2,
which solved the drying problem, while according to his account, greatly
improved the inks themselves. I had used the original GQ inks in a 2200, and liked
them very much, except for the drying time on glossy papers.
