Have printer, where to go now?

Have printer, where to go now?

2008-04-28 by niteowl1004

Many thanks to Paul, Clayton, and Joe on all the advice for
selecting a printer. Unfortunately, I couldn't spring for a 2400,
and I wanted to be able to go large format, so I opted for pain and
got a 1400, which has the 6 inkset. I got QTR, and they have a
setting for the 1400 BO. Started to print, made some curves, but I
think some kind of education would be good. I do a lot of portraits
and still life shots, and like the matte or satin type finishes. I
shoot with a Hassleblad and scan with a epson flat bed. So here are
the questions....

1. To get high quality shots at 13 x 19 what resolution should I be
scanning at. My scanner can go to 9600dpi, and the files are HUGE!I
end up with 500 and 600 mb files. I can't see much difference
between the files when i print lower res files, say 3600dpi

2. While I am getting ok results, I am not close enough to what I
could produce in my wet darkroom. Should I go to the quadtones to
get that kind of result?

3. Are there quadtone curves for the 1400? That use multiple carts?

4. I ordered a set of carts for the printer, I had no idea how much
ink I could go through in a couple of days of goofing around. When I
get them, I can go to other black inks, any reccomendatons?

5. Any books, or other resources that I should look at?

Thanks to all,

Scott

I must say one of the very best photo investments I've made in the
last 5 years was my Nikon 8000 scanner. Hasselblad negatives really
deserve more than a flatbed. The dpi numbers do not necessarily
reflect the sharpness of the image.

I'll have a 1400 in a week or so and see what I can come up with. I
expect the UT-RC inkset, among others, will work. See

Thanks for the help Paul, I cant wait to see what you come up with
for the 1400. I have been reading a lot of your material, Its
amazing how much work you have done in figuring this stuff out!

I may need to join the sleep clinic too...along with your other
glassey-eyed followers

Scott,

I know this does not answer your question, but I have one for
you....what do you mean by 1400 BO?
