I print primarlily b/w with Epson OEM inks via Epson's ABW driver on Epson Premium Glossy Paper via Qimage with a R2400. My question is if I go to a MIS bulk system or refill Epson carts with MIS inks do I have to create new profiles or are MIS inks close enough to Epson K3 to use the Epson profiles? Thanks Joe

Interesting. When speaking with MIS today, they sort of indicated that the inks would be close enough to the original Epson inks that I could use the inks with the Epson profiles and ABW driver with good results. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Peter De Smidt <pdesmidt@...> wrote: > > > I print primarlily b/w with Epson OEM inks via Epson's ABW driver on > > Epson Premium Glossy Paper via Qimage with a R2400. > > > > My question is if I go to a MIS bulk system or refill Epson carts with > > MIS inks do I have to create new profiles or are MIS inks close enough

Well, I print both color and BW with a color profile (Print Fix Pro expert target with extended grays.) I don't use ABW. The only way to tell if the differences between inks are meaningful for you with ABW would be to try it.

Despite their claims I haven't found that to be the case with my R1800. If you have PFP I'd recommend creating new profiles. Roger -- - In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Peter De Smidt <pdesmidt@...> wrote:

I have been using for a short period of time MIS UC R1800 colors inks. They are made by Ink Specialists. Very good inks and on some images using the Epson premium profiles it was very close. But for some other images the color was not as it was supposed to be. I have a calibrated monitor. If I would have continued using color a lot, I would have had my printer/ink/papers combinations profiled. Just my personal experience. The website says the inks have the same color gamut as Epson inks and I believe it because prints with his inks and Epson paper/profiles look just like prints with Epson inks. The prints using ABW also look the same. But your not limited to using Epson paper/profiles. He ship this inkset with a cd of about 45 color profiles for Epson, Hahnemule, Innova, Inkpress, Moab (I think), and his new JonCone Studio Papers (4 types. I'm now using Type 3, an acid/ligin-free white ultra smooth heavy weight 275gsm EEM look-a-like). So, you can use this inkset for both color and black and white with success. Regards, Steve Harris
