Quest. for Paul R.

Quest. for Paul R.

2008-06-04 by Vincent Orlando

Paul, need your input on this. I am using a 7600 with the Mis UT7 inks.
with funnel fill carts. I am about out of ink and would like your input,
do you recommend a diff ink set? I was never happy with the dmax I got
with that set but it printed very nicely other than that. Do you
recommend the new carbon 6 set and how much trouble is it to clean
the cart. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi Vincent,

Paul will no doubt offer his expert opinion here, but did you try
searching past messages? Paul has written volumes on Carbon-6 and many
have discussed cleaning cartridges.

Paul is an incredible resource to this site but sometimes I think we
take him for granted.

It's a matter of personal preference. I use 100% carbon inksets
now. So, if it were me, I'd switch to Eboni-6 or Carbon-6. But,
that would exclude glossy printing and print tone controls are
obviously less with a 100% carbon monotone.
See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-6.pdf

I never got a great dmax from my 7600 with the Epson driver. I used
IJC then and would probably use QTR now if I had a 7600.

> Do you recommend the new carbon 6 set

Yes, with the caveat that it has to be considered a beta inkset. It
simply has not been in use long enough to know what might happen over
the long haul. Eboni-6 may have fewer variables simply because the
base used is a commercial base that has been more thoroughly tested.

> and how much trouble is it to clean the cart.

As long as they have no sponges, they are rather easy to clean. I
use just distilled water, then the generic base (Carbon-6 base --
see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Ink-Mixing.pdf ), and finally a
little of the ink that'll be in the cart itself to rinse and prepare
the cart.

Hope it works for you.

7600 B&W

2008-06-04 by Larry Ostrom

Hi,

I have a 7600 which I am considering switching to a B&W inkset.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried the piezotone inks from Jon Cone or
compared them to Eboni-6 ??

hope this hasn't been covered before

thanks
Larry.

Repeatedly, perhaps there is a list archive you could review?

I have compared the Eboni-6 test strips to K6 test strips and in terms
of smoothness they are virtually identical.

Paul, thanks for the quick reply. Can you give me a quick diff.
between the two, carbon & Ebon1 6 or a link to where I can read
what the diff. is.

Thank again for all your hard work

My write ups are at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Ink-Mixing.pdf and
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-6.pdf

Eboni-6 uses a commercial base from MIS. Carbon-6 is an open-source
base. The surfactant in Carbon-6 is not as strong at the commerical
base, but it's good for 3 pl printers (all but the 1.5 1800 and 1400).
The commercial bases have some ingredients that I have not put in the
generic one. Biosides are probably the main one. I, frankly, doubt
carbon or the base will be attacked, but only time will tell.

Visually they inks are very similar, with Carbon-6 being just a hair
cooler.

The mix ratios are a bit different. Carbon-6 has a simplified one that
makes mixing without a scales much easier.

Hope this helps.
