printer not acknowledging paper & print size

printer not acknowledging paper & print size

2008-06-09 by lovelipp

My printer is a 7800, and my system is XP and CS2. I usually print on
8.5x11 and 17x22 sheets or once in a while, rolls. Now, I'm trying to
use 13 x 19 sheet HPR to print an 11x14 image. I set everything to
right size and it looks right on Print with Preview - but ptint emerges
from printer on upper r.h. corner of page at 8.25 x 9.75 with top of
image cropped. If I use 17x22 for an 11 x 14 image it comes out
centered and correct - but what a waste of paper! It seem the printer
just doesn't accept the 13 x 19 size, even though that size is put in
Select Printer box and page setup. Please advise! Thanks

Setup should be pretty straightforward on that machine.

A few basics: Are you loading the sheets with the right side lined
up with the start of the ruler on the paper guide?

Printer is set to sheets? Margins are set to 3mm all around? (The
standard is 15 mm. You can do taht on the LCD panel on the printer.)

In the driver setup - assuming you are using the Epson driver -
select "centered" for the image.

When you are in the "Print with Preview" panel in CS2, the image size
and teh placement of teh image on the paper should show up
accurately. It will show the top margin and teh left margin.

I have never had a problem with the drivers on the 7600/9600 or 7880.
Control of image placement is pretty accurate on all size sheets.

Good luck!
Best,
Michael

My 7600 does not have a preset for 13x19. Did you create your own
custom paper definition? Correct sizes?

Of course there is the portrait and landscape layout selection. On
rolls there is an "auto" adjustment that will rotate the image to best
fit a roll. If "roll" is checked in the driver instead of "sheet", it
may be trying to adjust the layout to fit roll paper?

Also, if "Roll - Uncut" is seleced on the printer, it will feed some
extra paper at the start of the sheet. Something it does not do
if "Roll - Cut" or "Sheet" is selected.

Sorry, trying to find anything that makes sense. ;>)

best,
Michael

Thanks to all who replied. The solution was to NOT use the 13x19 paper size
setting, but to use the A3 setting. Image came out correct size and centered.
I have no idea why, but it worked. I've decided that with everything from the
telephone to the TV set to the computer, I don't have to know how it works,
I just have to know how to work it.
                      Cheers,
                          Arlene
