Epson K3-like Inks

Epson K3-like Inks

2008-07-28 by masterbox11

Has anyone had any experience with third party Epson Ultrachrome K3-
like inks for an Epson 2400? Both MIS and Jon Cone claim that their
inks are quite comparable to the Epson K3 inks and one should see no
discernable difference in using them. I am presently using Jon Cone's
Piezography B&W inks in another Epson 2400 with great results. Thanks
for any experience information in this regard.

Hello--

I was just wondering what it was that made you decide to switch from Epson OEM inks
to the Piezography in your R2400--were there some aspects of the OEM inks that were not
adequate?

Thanks,

some other papers too.

The color space is dead on. If I use profiles supplied by others (for instance Ilford) for
Epson ink, the Cone Color inks work without a hitch.

I switched to the CIS because the Epson cartridges were always running out. It's nice to
have an ink supply that lasts for a while, and it's nice to know that I can use any paper that
is profiled for Epson inks: I know they'll work with this ink set.

The reason that I initially switched to a dedicated B&W inkset(Pietzograpghy
by Jon Cone) was its ability to open up the shadows which it did
considerably better than the Epson inks. Secondly, was the fact that the Epson ink
cartridges were constantly running out of ink. So I switched to the Jon Cone CIS
system with the Piezography inks, and I don't have to shut down to change
cartridges. I also noticed that when the Epson cartridges showed empty, there was
still a lot of ink left in the cartridges. I would also say that there are
real savings as well in ink expense.

inkset, convert the R2400 to the Cone inkset, or buy the 3800 and hope/wait until a set of
Cone cartridges for that printer goes on the market. Your advice has helped me to favor
conversion or buying the 3800.
