wireless printing

2008-08-20 by Igor Wesdorp

Hello,

About wireless printing:

I've just moved and the 3800 I ordered will have to stand in the other
corner of my room, away from my pc, so not having to use a cable sure
looks nice. But does it work?
I would like to know:

- Does it make a difference if you print wireless? (apart from not
 having to use a cable)
- Is it reliable?
- Is the print quality the same?
- Is it slower?
- What kind of gear will I need?

Thanks!

I have a setup here where I use a router connected to the 3800 (a
bridge would be the right solution, I am not sure if this works with
every router).

I did not found any difference.

Till now (about 500 pages, mostly A3+) I never had a problem, distance
here from one corner to the next is about 4 meter)

Absolutely!

I did not found any difference, I however also did not perform
measurements.

Try to get a Bridge and a wlan card for the PC. (I use separate
network for printer, I did want to keep it separate from internet)

Thank you, Vinc.

I will consider it.

I do have a Fritzbox WLAN modem (for internet) connected to my pc. Can
that be of any use for wireless printing?

most probably yes.. however as said before I would recommend to setup a
separate WLAN for the printer to keep the printer as far as possible
from the internet.
