Mixing Piezography with MIS EB-6 inks

Mixing Piezography with MIS EB-6 inks

2008-11-18 by JensGerbitz

Hi there,

I recently installed a Piezography CIS for the Epson 1400. At some
point I would like to try out the MIS EB-6 inkset as a comparison; I
would probably swap in pre-filled carts before committing to
purchasing bulk ink.

My question: are there any known chemistry issues when mixing these
two inksets that would require a thourough flushing before installing
the EB-6 inks, or could I simply run purging cycles to get rid of the
Piezography inks?

Thanks,
Jens

I don't recommend mixing inksets in a CIS. Use clean, new carts to try
a new or different inkset first.

Hi Paul,
Thanks, but would you recommend flushing before swaping in new carts
with EB-6, or should running a few purging patterns suffice? I'm a
concerned about a possible reaction btwn the two inks that could gum
up the works, but I'd obviously like to avoid having to buy the
cleaning carts if they're not necessary.
Cheers,
Jens

The safe route is to always use cleaning carts between inks, and they
are handy things to have around. MIS is very concerned, in
particular, about putting Eboni-6 in a printer that has had
UltraChrome in it -- unless cleaning carts have been used. So, there
most be some potential for trouble with other inksets.

So, bottom line, I recommend cleaning carts (even though I'm guilty
of ingoring my own recommendations sometimes).

Got it, thanks. I just saw the thread above concerning a similar
question on the 1400; sorry for the repeat.

Piezography inks are more similar in chemistry to Ultrachrome inks so
no flushing is necessary going that way. But I have no idea about the
chemistry of MIS inks.

If MIS does not advise mixing with Ultrachrome, I certainly would not
mix with Piezography.
