SuperJetUSA CIS Problems

SuperJetUSA CIS Problems

2008-12-15 by Brian Corll

I just got the SuperJetUSA CIS for the 2200. After setting it up following
instructions (what instructions there were and the parts that were in
unintelligible Chinese pidgin-English), it leaks like a sieve. I was advised
to make sure that the tank and printer were on the same level. They are.
These guys don't have any sort of support to speak of. Anyone else with one
of the CIS's have any idea what to do to stop the leaking ? I wasted a good
part of a set of 4 oz UT-7 bottles here..this is becoming very annoying, not
to mention cleaning all the ink out of the bottom of my printer !

Brian, I have been using Superjet for more than 2 years now. They usually reply to my problems within one day. I did have leaking tanks the first time. I send them a photo and they send me a new CIS. They do have broken english but I understand them.
I have replaced the original tanks with some Bubble soap 8oz bottles you get at the Dollar tree. I never had any problems with leaks in the cartridges. I have a R220.
I would email them a picture with the leak.

I know it did not help your problem a lot. If you have any questions, email me.

Epson 2200 Head Cleaning

2008-12-16 by Brian Corll

I keep hearing about raising the head on the 2200 to clean it. But how do
you raise the head ? I see no way to release it, but perhaps I'm going blind
from looking at it.

Brian, that is really strange. were the cartridge leaking inside the printer? Where exactly? I had a CIS from them for a 1280 and a R220. I also have an empty one spare for a R280. I still have a R280 in the box in case the R220 dies.
I have to admit that they are made in china and the quality control may not be great but it looks like the ones that american companies are selling also come from China. They may check them though before they resell them.

I do feel bad for you. I have an 2200 in my attic that was given to me but no ink comes out. I tried to clean the nozzle but nothing. I just gave up.

I have a Superjet in my 2400 running C6 inkset, and one in my C88+
running C13.5. No problems so far. I do shake the ink containers when
they have sat for a month unused, ink settles, and run purge cycles.
On the 2400 I did have some leaking when I tried elevating the
containers on a book. I just keep the bottles at a constant level now.

Yep, I now own one of those 2200 bricks too. Cleaned everything I could
clean, flushed the heads - nothing. I might just take it apart to see how it
all works. Who knows - it might even work again when I put it back together.

Brian, I'm not sure how similar the 2200 is to the 1800 but, I Inherited an 1800 with a CIS that was massively clogged and given up on. The bottom line was a leaking poppet valve on
one of the dummy ink cartridges. Ink drained into the parking pads, gummed up the pads, gummy ink was pushed up into the nozzles each time the head was parked, etc., etc.

The parking pads were cleaned by finding the drain tubes from the parking pad (they are on the right side looking at the front on the 1800) I repeatedly shot windex onto the parking
pads with a syringe and then sucked the pads dry with another syringe with a bottom fill adaptor inserted into the tubes. Probably two cups of windex were used at that point.

For the head itself, I cleaned it by releasing the head so that it could move back and forth manually. I then folded a paper "shop towel" into an accordion fold that would fit down into
the trough (roughly 1-1/2" wide) and the fold would spring it up toward the bottom of the print head. This I sprayed the top with Windex and then ran the print head back and forth.
I probably went through six or so towels before the print head stayed consistently clean.

Yours sounds very recent so you may not have the clogged nozzles yet from the impacted evaporated ink but they were cleaned out with cleaning carts from MIS. Usually three
cleanings and an over night soak. That took about four days.

The printer had maxed out the wastepad counter and had to be reset with the SSC uitility but I don't think you are anywhere near that yet.

I don't know what the specific problem with the CIS was as I threw the entire mess away, but what I have found with many of MIS's carts that leak through the poppet valve is that the
rubber insert that makes up part of the poppet valve had been inserted at a slight angle. I found that by inserting a small punch just slightly smaller than the OD of the rubber insert I
could push the insert in slightly and re-align the rubber seal. I haven't taken a cart apart yet but I surmise the rubber seal is symmetrical in that the two sealing surfaces (the inside
for the spring loaded ball component of the poppet valve and the outside for the conical male insert that would lift the ball are the same. If the seat is cocked the ball will not seat
when the cart is out of the unit, and, the seat will leak around the probiscus when it is inserted. I bring this up because from memory the CIS dummy carts had the same type of
poppet valve. I also would think, coming from a manufacturing background many years ago, that there could easily by one manufacturer of the poppet valves for many, many cart
manufacturers and the leak is caused by poor installation and/or poor quality control at assembly. I know what to look for on any new carts now (the angle in the bad alignment is
easy to spot with good eyes or a small glass/loupe, but I'm very familiar with the mess it makes in the printer. Good luck!

RE: [Digital BW] Re: SuperJetUSA CIS Problems

2008-12-17 by Brian Corll

Got it , Bob. Thanks ! I may just keep this 2200 around and see what I can
do about disassembling it and diagnosing the exact problem. What the heck,
if I can fix a computer, the printer shouldn't be all that hard. But that's
a project for later. Meantime, the 2880 arrives today, and SuperJetChina's
garbage system goes in the, um, garbage.

No problem, they have hundreds of printer service manuals. Best of luck with the re-build, Epsons are well made on the whole, normaly just needs a bloody good cleaning. If you have pets doubly so.

Got it , Bob. Thanks ! I may just keep this 2200 around and see what I can
do about disassembling it and diagnosing the exact problem. What the heck,
if I can fix a computer, the printer shouldn't be all that hard. But that's
a project for later. Meantime, the 2880 arrives today, and SuperJetChina' s
garbage system goes in the, um, garbage.

Brian

Try "toneio" treats, they will keep them greys in line.

No problem, they have hundreds of printer service manuals. Best of luck with
the re-build, Epsons are well made on the whole, normaly just needs a bloody
good cleaning. If you have pets doubly so.

All the best Bob.
