Refilling OEM Epson Cartridges

Refilling OEM Epson Cartridges

2008-12-17 by Brian Corll

Since there is no problem, legally, with refilling OEM Epson cartridges that
you have purchased and used personally, how would I drill the cartridges for
refilling in such a way as to not introduce small bits of plastic into the
carts, which may eventually clog the heads ? Or would the internal filter do
the job for me ?

Have you tried the MIS refill kit? Seems to work OK. The only problem
I have found is it takes half the ink in cleaning cycles to get the
cartridges flowing again once refilled. Someone on the board may have
a solution for this.

A syringe and bottom fill adaptor...?

Alistair
This might sound silly but when filling did you get air into the
cartridge also did you let it rest for 10 min and then remove any air
and ink out before putting it back into the printer.

I am using the MIS kit which has includes an adaptor and syringe. Is
this what you mean or is there a better way?

Not silly at all Robert. I suspect I did get a little air into the
cartridge. It seems very hard to get the last air bubble out of the tip
of the syringe. Perhaps I could find a better way. As far as removing
air and ink out before putting back in printer, sounds interesting. Can
this be done with the OEM cartridges?

Hi
I would say that 90% of epson can be refilled. But there are some
that have a non return value in them.

I fill 100's of this cartridges
I found that you have to over fill by 10ml then rest for 2-3 hours
with them stand upright Then remove the ink with any air Then you are
ready to go.

I have made my own adaptors One for each model type.

Inksupply.com (MIS inks) has a kit for about 11 dollars that will
refill OEM Epson carts with resettable chips. The resetter is about 10
dollars. all you need is a full set of Epson carts with chips to get
started. If you use their ink bottles of 4 oz, you save over a hundred
dollars a bottle over replacement original Epson carts. For eight
carts that make over 800 dollars saved.

Yes, after re-filling the original Epson cart, I would think you
could use the adaptor to remove a little bit of ink from the poppet
valve, as a way to 'prime' the cart.

I checked with MIS. They are working on an Epson OEM cart refill kit for the
2880 but it is not available yet. None of the other kits will fit.

They have color ink for the 1900. It's not glossy if that's what
you're looking for.

Please people, respect us who receive this list in digest form

and don't be too lazy to erase the previous posts of the ones you are replying to. I'm getting
tired of scrolling through endless replies quoting every post on the subject! It really isn't that
hard to just select the few pertinent sentences on the post you are replying to and copying
just those in your submission. It's called netiquette and is the polite way to do list postings.

thank you.

I understand your pain, but found it much easier to get them as
individual e-mails so you can just delete any that you are not
interested in and view the ones you are. I don't understand the
reasoning for daily digest, could you explain to me the advantage?

Sorry I meant to say R1800.
I'm thinking to get self resetting carts and refill them. However don't know which ink I should use to print color printing. Basically, I want my prints to be as good as using OEM ink. I don't know much about carts or ink, but am tired to pay for Epson ink.
How easy is to refill and use self resetting carts.
Thank you!

Personally I prefer to receive the digest. I tend to preview the list
of posts at the beginning of the digest, if there's nothing I'm
interested in I'd just delete the digest. The last digest which
prompted this replied had roughly 23 posts. Clicking through each
email to see whether you should delete it or not takes much more time
than seeing all of them at once in a single email, and the delete
takes just one click.

Nevertheless, trimming the quoted part of a reply can definitely
reduce wrist injuries :)

I posted here and on the Epson printing group about my experiences:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/EPSON_Printers/

At the link I sent you before there are inks for the R1800.

The MIS ink doesn't look like the OEM ink- it's not at all glossy. I
think MIS looks better on semi-gloss type paper. They look the same
to me on matte paper. You'll need to custom profile the MIS inkset as
it's a bit different from the Epson.

Refilling is fairly easy but buy extra carts and chips because some do
fail.

Gar,
I really dislike the digest form. BUT, I 100% agree with ncm's basic
point, namely, eliminate the non-germane quoted series of posts.
Everyone benefits, whether you get the digest or individual emails.
It wastes everyones time, both in downloading and reading.

Gar -
Thanks for your COMMUNITY MINDED RESPONSE - Not!

This has less to do with Digest than people who are too lazy to take
ten or fifteen seconds to remove the superfluous repeats
at the end of their reply's. To do so, is standard internet protocol,
and there are many groups who would ban members who
repeatedly refuse to follow those rules.

Why don't you try thinking we instead of me?

I've been using the MIS OEM refill kit with good results... after
filling I place the bottom fill adapter on the syringe and draw about
1 mil out, covering the air vent hole with a finger. This is supposed
to help with the air problem people are talking about. But, Robert,
I've heard that you have to get the cart back in the printer as soon
as possible, for me that's about 2-3 minutes, so the printer ports
don't dry out. What do you think? Is something to be concerned about?
Thank you!

One trick I've used to prevent the printhead spikes from drying out is to cover them with (clean) wet toilet tissue while I have the carts out.

Noticed and appreciated (g).

It's faster to go through a digest than manually opening closing deleting individual emails.
There is a clickable list at the top of each digest and one can go directly to the thread/s
one is interested in.

Also, as I subscribe to various lists, the amount of individual emails I would have to wade
through on a daily basis would be daunting.

cheers,

ncm

Daily Digest Sample. Maybe the following will help explain the daily digest option to those who haven't tried it. The last digest contained around two dozen individual messages all of which are contained in the single email of the digest. Below I've pasted the digest's table of contents which groups each message title under the appropriate topic, along with the message's author. In the full digest, these message titles are hot linked to all the messages which are provided in full beneath this table of contents (messages not included here for space reasons). This makes it easy to just click the message title that interests you because it then drops down to the appropriate message below. It's really quite an elegant solution for those who do not want to get individual emails.

Rob,

Yes, I refill the R1800. I do black only printing with MIS' Eboni ink
in the two black and the glop positions, using Paul Roark's workflow.

In the color positions, I use the OEM color carts in their original
positions. After the color ran out I refilled them with MIS Cleaning
Fluid and do so whenever the Tool Kit shows them to be low. As for the
three black positions, I started with the MIS carts pre-filled with
Eboni, from MIS, and now that they've run out I refill those as well.

The refill techniques are different. For the OEM carts I use the MIS
OEM refill kit and for the black positions I use the MIS technique for
the spongeless carts. I hope this is the information you're looking
for! Let me know if I can tell you more,

Paul
