Ebony BO + Claria colour inks

Ebony BO + Claria colour inks

2009-01-04 by phil_nuggent

G'day all from Australia,
I just bought the Epson 1410 (pretty sure it's the same as the
1400)as my first photgraph printer. Funds didn't permit a more
expensive k3 jobby so I'm wondering if anyone has had ok results with
the MIS Ebony in the BO config whilst leaving Claria colours as they are.

I'm pretty sure it will print decent BO prints with the Ebony (QTR
Claria BO looks good to me... having said that I'm not a pro), but
will it still print in colour with MIS Ebony in the black position ?

I don't mind changing the black cartridge back to Claria to print
colour but will that drain all my ink away ?

I'll be displaying them in my house inside Acrylic wall mounts ... If
Claria gave me 80 years longevity, then I'm happy (I'll take good care
of the digital copies)... so do you guys think I really need carbon
inks ? Do they look better than Claria black (I'm planning on using
Epson Premium Semi Gloss Paper).

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Phil

I believe you are right, same as 1400. As long as you use only the
eboni and do not try to add some of the Claria for toning you should
be OK (although I have not personally tried it). You will need QTR or
equivalent to be able to control the printer to only fire the eboni. N

Yes it will, buy only on matt papers - eboni is an MK ink.

I am not sure of the compatability between Claria and eboni. You will
need to check it out or you will ruin the printer if not compatible.

In that case I would tend to stay with the Claria black if you are
happy with it.

then stick with Claria, Eboni is matt only unless you want to
overspray

On my 260, I found that a Claria black cart would not work with MIS
color carts also installed. I had to have all Claria or all MIS
chips. It might be the same with your 1410, but I have no way of
knowing. It was not a chemical problem but a chip and software
problem. The printer just would not accept mixed chips/carts.

My 1400 does very well with Eboni BO.

If it's like my 260, you'll even get better B&W with QTR with some
profiles that use just a bit of the color inks. See
http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Claria-BW.pdf

As noted above, I had to have all of one type of ink in the 260 to
avoid the driver refusing to print.

If longevity is not a problem, I think you might be surprised at how
good the Claria is with profiles such as I made and noted in the
above PDF. But, I don't think Claria is professional quality. For
fine art you'd want to go with carbon pigments.

Claria black has a rather ugly green tint. But, again, see the PDF.

Good luck with your B&W.
