Installing MIS UT-14 Inks on an Epson 1400

Installing MIS UT-14 Inks on an Epson 1400

2009-01-09 by Kevin G. Oakeson

I'm very new to this style of printing and need a little help. I'm not finding documentation
related specifically to installation on my equipment. Can someone offer some advice???

I am having some very bad banding problems after installing the UT-14 ink-set from MIS on
my Epson 1400 printer. Almost no ink is making it's way to the paper. I've gone thru the
prescribed three cleaning cycles and printing the purge test pattern to no avail. Am I missing
something??? Is there a procedure that I need to do that sets-up the printer properly???

Thanks,
Kevin

The main thing that seems to go wrong on installation is people don't
remove the yellow tab over the MIS cart air inlets. I'm not sure if
MIS is informing people of this or not.

Yep, it sounds like the yellow tabs are still on the carts. If not,
it's probably air in the outlets. Letting the printer sit still over
night will often allow the foam to dissipate and ink to flow.

Hope this helps.

Kevin..
If Paul's suggestion doesn't work right away, You may have to "prime" the cartridges by using a small syringe with a bottom fill adaptor attached, and suck out approximately 1ml of ink from each problem cartridge..This priming also should have been done before your install, but you can do it now as well..make sure to thouroughly rinse out the syringe and purge it to near dry in between colors..My settup is working like a charm.., especiall more trouble-free than my 1280 with UT-2 INKS which gave me GREAT results, but with printer killing clogging issues..
Have patience, and you''ll work it out and fall in love with this combination..

I had exactly that problem when I got my set of UT-14 cartridges. There was no note in
the box from MIS. The first bunch of prints were totally messed up and I was very
depressed. After removing the tabs the carts work like a charm. Although I must say so far
I'm disappointed in the number of prints - At this point I've gotten perhaps 8 8.5x11 and
20 6x4. The printer reports I can print another 8 8.5x11 before its out of ink!

Regards, Matthew

Eddie and Paul,

Thank you very much for the help!

I did a little more research on MIS's website after I posted this and managed to dig up
some more information. Stupid me, I needed to pull-out the plug from the air vent! You
guys were right. Pretty simple fix. It would be nice if MIS created a simple how-to for
complete novices like myself.

I'm up and running and everything is working perfectly. I made some excellent first prints
so far and looking forward to fine tuning the process. Thanks again!!!

Kevin

Matthew,

It is much less expensive to buy a set of refillable cartridges for $25.00
and the ink in bulk. I am making a few prints a day but seem to be filling
the ink weekly.

I'm pretty sure the MIS pre-filled UT14 carts are, in fact,
refillable. Rather than having a fill plug that has a handle on it,
however, you may need to use a jeweler's screw driver to remove a clear
stopper that is flush with the top of the cart. If you saved the air
inlet stoppers, they can probably be used as the fill hole plugs in the
future.
