epson r1800

epson r1800

2009-01-22 by elmstreetshuffle

hello

i own an epson r1800 and have been using it since last year with a
niagra bulk system and the mis eboni ink system. it had been making
what i thought were some pretty nice prints and a lot of them. but
recently i was running low on a couple of inks(yellow, blue and
red?)and the lights for the paper feed and ink button started blinking
alternately and the cartridge holder won't move out of the starting
position. i called epson and they said the cleaning pads had filled up
with ink. my question is- is it the low inks(which i am ordering) or
is it the ink cleaning pads, and how do i get the ink cartidge holder
to move so i could clean it or replace them(i don't know if you can
actually do that).

if anybody has suggestions that would help, i greatly appreciate it.

You need the Russians!

Go here:

http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml

and downlowd the "Russian Utility" and then re-set the waste counter

then go here:

http://www.inkrepublic.com/knowledgebase/R800WasteInk.asp?C=0

and see how to rig an expanded waste tank system so you can bypass the waste pads in
future. You will still need to reset the counter occasionally.

Only caveat is the uitility only works on PCs so you may have to borrow a PC laptop to run
the utility.

I had this trouble with my R220 and used this utility, found it on
Epson's own website: I'm sure it'll work with your R1800.

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp#submit

It worked quite well.

thank you for the information. i do have a mac,but my son has windows
so i'll bring it over and try the utility on the web site. i don't get
the chance to print every day, but when i do it sure is a lot of fun
even if there is a little inconvenience of maintenance sometimes.

once again i thank you

Actually you shouldn't need a PC for the utility I mentioned that's on
the Epson website (see previous message). I believe you can use it if
you're using a Mac. I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong. I know
the Russian software requires a PC.

I'm not familiar with Epson's utility but if the red lights went out and the head freed up it
sounds like the same result as the re-set utility from SSC. With the SSC Utility you can view
the counter although it doesn't really tell you much as different actions (cleaning, repeated
cleaning, cartridge changes all have different values in the "count" ) but you can see when it
is re-set.
