OT: Epson Artisan 700 printer?

OT: Epson Artisan 700 printer?

2009-01-29 by Greg

After almost 5 years and thousands of pages my trusty cx6600 may be
ready to be replaced. Anyone have any comments on the new Epson
Artisan 700 printer? I just need a general purpose copy, scan, print,
and the CD print would be nice to have. Mostly for office type work
and PDF printing. Need to be able to get a CIS for it first too,
couldn't afford to print without one.

Re: OT: Epson Artisan 700 printer? Or RX680

Actually for what I need it looks like the RX680 would be better since
it might eliminate the manual page flipping with the duplexer. Any
thoughts on this machine? InkRepublic already has a CIS for the 680 so
I could get it going sooner. Yes I do understand the replacement dye
inks are not going to last as long as the Claria, for most of what I
am doing this should be fine.

I have an Artisan 800 and the print quality is nothing short of stunning.
Sharp. Beautiful subtle gradations. Excellent neutrality in monochrome
prints. High DMax. It is wifi enabled so everyone in the house can use it.
The scanner is fantastic. The print driver has an AdobeRGB mode and output
from Photoshop is very accurate. We love it. But...

It has a very tightly curved paper path and I have found that the third
party papers I would like to use will not feed. You may be limited to Epson
media only. Even some Epson papers have to be loaded one sheet at a time and
you have to remove the entire paper tray to do that. Not at all convenient.

I gave up on bulk ink systems long ago so I am stuck with the cost of Epson
ink. I don't mind as I use this printer for small personal work and
proofing. All of my regular output is to photographic paper through a lab.

Hope this helps.
