MIS PRO profiles

MIS PRO profiles

2009-02-04 by phil_nuggent

Hi all,
I've finally got my Epson 1400 running with Eboni for BO and MIS
PRO pigments for colour. It is printing ok, no clogs or other such
dramas.

I know this is a B&W group, but does anyone have a profile for the
1400 with MIS PRO inks ? I don't have any profiling equipment, I've
tried a bunch of similar MIS profiles with poor results.

Anyone know where I could get an Epson 1400 MIS PRO icc profile for
when I need to print in colour ?

Cheers,
    Phil

I use the 260 with MIS color pigments. My commercial profiling
program didn't do a very good job with it; so I made a PS curves
layer that prints a neutral gray and not bad color with the MIS color
inks. With the neutral gray profiling approach the high gamut colors
are off a bit, but it's fine for casual printing. Send me your e-
mail address off list and I'll send you the layers if you'd like.

Could I extend Phil's request to the R1800? Any icc profile for matte
paper would do. :) Thanks.

Hi Paul.
Why don't you try using your profiling package -after- your curves. It
sounds like you've pretty much limited and linearized the
printer/ink/paper combination with the curves. That should give your
profile software a much more stable platform to work from. In essence
you're just using the Pshop controls as a RIP. That approach worked
very well for me a few years back, before I retrieved my spectro from
storage and was using scanner based profiling.

Regards,
Duane

The prints are good enough for my purposes with just that curves layer
that there is no need for more work.

With the MIS inks or Epson OEM?

Thanks for the reply Paul, In fact the first profile I tried was your
260-MIS Color PS layers. Unfortunately they weren't even close in the
1400 - way too much magenta. The best result I've had so far is
fiddling with the color controls in the driver... somewhat ok results
but nowhere near accurate unfortunately. I guess I'll just hope that
MIS make a profile for the 1400 and MIS PRO pigments at some stage.

Thanks.

Phil.

Re: MIS PRO profiles

Try pulling the slider on the layer back to about 50%. The slider
seems to be needed to adjust for different papers. On the 260, at
least with matte papers, it seems to work OK. I've never tried in on
a 1400.

For the best color profiles, of course, get a good profiling system
with a spectro that has a strip reader.
