Uncooperative LightMagenta Epson cartridge

Uncooperative LightMagenta Epson cartridge

2009-02-04 by Johnny Eades

Recently my LM cart in my R2400 printer started skipping, so I decided
to go with refilling the original Epson carts using MIS procedure which
uses the Epson cart's fill hole on the bottom and the exit hole also.
Inserting a syringe into the fill hole which has been opened and fitted
with a filling device and inserting another syringe into the exit hole
to catch the overflow ink and foam I proceeded to complete the
operation successfully. Placing the refilled cart into the printer and
running a couple of test patterns, I saw the LM was still not firing,
at which point I put the old cart back into the printer. That cart is
the MIS replacement carts that are clear and I could see that it was
full also. I downloaded a LM purge image and ran it through the printer
several times with no success. No ink is coming out of that particular
nozzle. I had this happen with an old Epson 1280, which led me to the
R2400. Has anyone had this problem and successfully solved it. Please
respond.

I have found that to get refilled OEM carts or non-OEM carts flowing
requires a cleaning cycle. I have found no other way round it.

Some say that it helps to draw a little of the ink out of the exit
hole to get it flowing but I have never found this helps.

I have gone through cleaning cycles and purge prints more than 3
times and after letting the printer sit overnight there is still no
ink coming from that cartridge at all. I still haven't tried the
syring and tubing on the printhead input nozzle trick with 1:9
ammonia water mixture yet. That is next.

HHmmm, that would be a last resort move John. You risk damaging the
head beyound repair if you pressurise it and delaminate the thing. They
are quite delicate. Also, it does not sound like the problem is with a
clclog anyway. It sounds like an airlock or some other issue with the
caatridge.

I have found some success in filling the cartridge until ink starts to
come out of the exit hole and THEN draw out 1/4 to 1/2 ml of ink and
bubbles out of the exit hole. Put the cart back in and give it a
cleaning cycle after leaving it standing for a couple of hours.

Have you tried re-seating the exit valve by inserting (more than once perhaps) a bent
paper clip?

I did as you suggested above and it has started working now. I had
the same problem on two just filled cartridges for that same color.
go figure!! I guess one of the best lessons printers give us is to
develop patience and perseverance. Thanks for the solution.
