PremierArt MattBW discontinued

2009-02-11 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
PremierArt Matt BW has been disconinued and replaced with a 180gsm single-sided paper - PrmierArt Deluxe Presentation Matt:
http://www.premierimagingproducts.com/pm_mattebw.php

Seeing at 210gsm Matt BW was already on the light side, this is not good as far as I'm concerned.

Dressing it up with meaningless words like 'Deluxe' and 'Presentation' is pointless.

They say it's whiter and has better colour gamut, but for me, this new paper is a non-starter - both because it's single-sided and too light.

I don't know what to replace the Matt BW with - there aren't many importers in New Zealand bringing in alternatives.

I concurr with your comments Richard....
This paper replaced "Enhanced Matte" for me and others....This was an EXCELLENT paper for the price..It appears the only item with the "Premier" name I'll be buying in the future is their ART SHIELD protective spray..I'm really VERY disappointed that they elected to kill-off this great paper which became my "maintstay" for both B&W proofing, and final work as well..

Hi,
perhaps we should all write to them and tell them what we think.

It worked with Moab, who brought back Kayenta.

Yes, 180gsm is on the light side, but for mounted prints that in
itself is not a deal-breaker.

I too like the double sided Matt BW, but I rarely used the "other" side.

Let's reserve judgment until we actually print on the new paper. It
may, in fact, turn out that for *visual* purposes the extra 30gsm was
needed only to prevent interaction of the images on the two sides.

That having been said, I should note that my experience has been that
210gsm papers are often inferior visually to heavier papers, even from
the same manufacturer and within the same product line.

Hi Myron,
I would not like to exhibit photos on such light paper, because I don't think it's going to lie flat nearly as well as the 210gsm paper.

Maybe I'll buy a box as a trial, but I remain very disappointed.

I wonder what the price difference will be and wonder if this is simply a cost-cutting exercise.

Has anyone here tried Red River's 60lb. Polar Matte Double Sided, or their 60lb. Premium Matte Double Sided ?..Both are priced competitively with the discontinued Premiere C2s..
I've had very good results with Red River AUORA NATURAL MATTE which is "archival", and also with their 68lb ULTRA-PRO Satin which I use for both B&W and Color..

Try the Smooth 205g, which is what fineartshould be printed on, 100% cotton, no oba's, wilhelm approved, not an alpha cellulose oba paper. It's like comparing enhanced matte to fineart paper??? not much comparison at all.

Peace, Charles.
