Digital BW, The Print

Hey everyone. I'm looking for the clear base liquid used in pigment  
inkjet inks that can go through the old 9600-type Epson heads. I have  
a little experiment that I want to try out for a project of mine . . .  
Anybody here have a connection or know of a supplier? I don't think  
the flushing liquid is it . . . is it? That would simplify things . . .

For matte paper, the flushing liquid should work. For gloss papers or
to produce a glossy type of ink then the GLOP would be the proper
product. The matte bases are not exactly the same as some of the
flushing fluids but are composed of large amounts of that fluid. This
information is all based on the Image Specialists products, I have no
information on anyone else's line of inks. I think the Image
Specialists number for the matte type flushing fluid is 820 and the
GLOP is 824 but I could be wrong so it might be worth a search of the
back posts to verify the part numbers. You can order it directly by
the IS part numbers from MIS associates (USA) and a few other places
around the world.

Note that some of the older printers with the larger drop sizes might
be better for taking powdered pigments and mixing with a clear base.

There isn't just one base.  For glossy inksets, MIS glop works fine as 
a base with its inks.  MIS also has a base they call "UC Base."  I 
don't think it makes a very good glossy base, but I believe it's quite 
compatible with other inksets.  The base MIS uses for Eboni-6 is a 
different base and not sold separately.  I use my "C6" base formula for 
several different inksets.

The MIS flushing fluid might be "UC base," but if it's a cleaning 
fluid, it'll have lower viscosity and not be appropriate for a base.
