Epson 1280 and MIS inks

2009-02-18 by kb7smm

Greetings, I have recently installed UT2 inks on my Epson 1280 and I am
using Epson Matte Heavyweigth Paper (8X10). I am following Mr. Roark's
UltraTone 2 (UT2) Information and Settings using the epson sliders. My
experiments can produce an acceptable warm print (at least to my
untrained eyes.) However the cool prints are not acceptable. The cool
prints are not printing well. Poor detail in the cool prints especially
where I would expect shawdows to transition to black. Cool prints look
too blue. My question is are there better papers for warm and cool
prints. Any suggetion would be much appreciated.

Jim

It's hard to say what the problem is. Assuming the nozzle checks are
perfect and the setting are correct (the usual problems), the
symptoms could be due to paper profiles, inkset mix, or printer.

There may also be QTR profiles that you'd want to try. It's been
quite a while since I used that inkset or made any profiles. To
update the profiles, I recommend finding the curve that gives the
best tones and then using Create ICC-RGB to re-linearize the profile
for a new paper. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-
