PremierArt Alise - strange problem

PremierArt Alise - strange problem

2009-03-08 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
I just did a text print and in the dark (almost solid black) areas, there was a strange streaky appearance, which I've never had before.

So I did a print of the same area in the Entrada I used to use, and the problem wasn't there.

I like the Alise, but my printer (2100) doesn't.

I've uploaded 1600ppi scans of the problem area - the Alise and the Entrada - and if anyone can tell me what this looks like, I'd really appreciate the input.

(By the way, the site is under construction, so much of it is not yet working.)

thanks,
Richard

Looks like what some clogged nozzles would produce, but am assuming you checked that. Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Hi clayton,
I retested the Entrada again after the first print and it was fine.

Odd ... I need a new printer, but that's an expensive solution :-\

Richard, I don't know Alise but I do know that Entrada's somewhat absorbant, so loses some detail...such as the probable clogging (or nozzle inefficiency with non-OEM ink) that Alise is displaying for you.

Smoothness of paper, including high gloss, doesn't necessarily mean highest detail resolution. I've carefully compared Entrada to Kayenta and to several glossy papers and found Kayenta to be faintly higher resolution. I don't know how Kayenta compares to EEM in that respect, but it might logically/hypothetically be superior due to its substrate.

Good point. Might be worth a try to increase the ink load. My two
primary papers now (with K3 ink in a 2400) are VFA and STA, and STA
requires slightly greater ink load for best results.

Also are you sure you are printing on the right side of the paper?
You can get this sort of effect if you are printing on the wrong
(non-coated) side.
