QTR Eboni6?

QTR Eboni6?

2009-05-07 by jag24x

Hi,

I have the R1800 with the Eboni 6 inks installed.
Though I'm using QTR and unsure of the process of using all 6 inks?
I've selected the printer as "Epson Stylus Photo R1800"
Though the printing model i'm unsure what to select here? What reflects the Eboni 6 inks?
All listed for the R1800 is the
QuadR1800
QuadR1800-3MK
QuadR1800-K7

I've gone through Paul Roark Eboni-1800.pdf but it doesn't state how to utilise the 6 inks in QTR. Unless I'm missing something entirely, which could/usually be the case! :)

Thanks

Be sure your carts are truly sponge free and not the MIS "sponge free" carts. (They have a small sponge in the air inlet that the Eboni-6 base appears to attack.)

At http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/Eboni-1800.pdf I described printing with the Epson driver, with or without ICCs. The Eboni-6 inkset is rather "plug and play." The ICC approach is the one I like best because it gives one a "color managed" workflow where the relative print densities match the monitor.

That's right. I often assume QTR users know how to make QTR profiles. It's easy. I think the existing tutorials will guide you. I don't have any Eb6-1800 QTR profiles pre-made.

Good luck with the system.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the quick reply!

I took your advice from previous posts and got the inkjetcarts spongless cartridges.

I'll go ahead and print with the Epson driver.
Will go through the tutorials to make my own curves/profile in QTR.

I was thinking, that i've filled all 6 cartridges with the Eboni ink,
the other 2 are the normal OEM inks, gloss and Photo black. I HOPE I dont need to add any other ink in those 2 positions for all this to work! :)

I was emailing a fellow at Inkjetcarts and he told me that with the printer if you set the options to print "plain paper/matte" the Epson R800/R1800 will only use Mk C M Y inks!?
For glossy Pk R B Y inks!
That means it only prints 4 inks at any given time?
So that means it could be a possibility that the Epson driver that you've stated with printing Eboni-6 inks are not all being utilized?

That QTR might be my best bet in printing all 6 inks?
Thanks

They seem to be good ones -- similar to what MIS uses for the 1400 and most newer printers.

QTR is useful with that setup. I just did not do the profiling, in part because I pulled the plug on the project when the cart sponge problem appeared. But with the 1400, I run QTR with 2 profiles, utilizing the sliders. One profile uses Eb6 2% (Y) and K. The other profile uses a second Eboni in black only mode. At 50/50 this gives me a nice combination of smoothness and tone.

The chips might be incompatible and stop the system from running. You might need the same type of chips in all positions.

I don't know. I never use the plain paper setting for photo printing.

I think with the higher quality paper settings it's using all the inks.
