4800 LK dmax on glossy

4800 LK dmax on glossy

What's the maximum dmax of the LK ink as measured when printing a QTR calibration chart on glossy papers? I remember with Paul Roark's UT7 inkset it was actually possible to print both glossy and matte prints with the same inkset by simply using the LK ink as the darkest ink in the curve. I wonder if a similar approach would be possible on the 4800 as that printer also has two gray inks. Or would the dmax be too low?

As I wrote in another thread I'm considering the 4800 printer, and the black ink swap is what's holding me back. So I thought I should check this too before making my decision.

Daniel,

LK is too weak - look at the comparison here with Cone ink density
http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.362672/sc.15/.f.
I can get Cone Ink 2 to max dmax on Glossy (sprayed). But I am sure I
couldn't get shade 4 to max out.

Your choices;

1) Put up with the 4800 ink swap
2) Get a 3800
3) Get a 4800 put in Matte ink and spray glossy prints.
4) Get a 4800 and use Imageprint Phatte Black.
5) Wait for 4900 to arrive with Matte and Photo blacks.
