Mothballing channels in 7500

Mothballing channels in 7500

2009-08-13 by John Wilton

I've had my 7500 set up with Paul's 4k+ with 4 dilutions of black, plus light magenta and diluted light cyan (MIS) for a few years now.

I never use the LM and LC, I'm very happy with the warm carbon tone. They are a problem however in that the printer occasionally 'spits'. Sidelining LM and LC would solve this problem (or at least clear fluid or base would probably be invisible), with the added advantage of having spare channels if an active channel gets a unsolvable clog.

What would be the best medium to fill the two spare channels: MIS 'Base' (used for mixing dilutions) or MIS 'Fluid' (head cleaning fluid)? Could a channel be cleaned out with cleaning fluid and then purged (left dry) safely?

I use my home brew "C6" base described here:

The MIS base would be fine also. The cleaning fluid is lower in viscosity and might run through the system, or it might be fine also. I've had to drain out of carts in desktop printers that I was storing.
