Which VCO is the best? If you find a VCO that is too perfect it may seem to lack character. Like water or wine or whatever, it is the impurities that give each their character. Robert Moog used to tell people why his VCO's were so "fat." He said it was a small amount of noise riding along the wave. This said, it is just a matter of taste which sounds the best. Features are another thing. How can you bend and shape it? A great deal depends on the other modules in your system*, but in comparing VCO's their own features are significant. I like the idea of separate wave forms being available. & Log fm & linear fm & pulse-width modulation & ???. Doepfer A-110 or A-111 and many others I like the idea of subharmonics being available. Analogue Solutions VCO-SUB I like the idea of being able to morph the waveform itself. Cyndustries ZerOscillator Plan B Model 15 Analogue Systems RS-90 or RS-95 Blacet VCO-2100 Serge NTO If the Buchla 259 seems to be in a class by itself it may be because it has internally a bunch of what others consider *external modules. Like extra VCO? Find the VCO that makes you happy. But others may not share your taste. sfrules
