agree!
also, modular synths are not only for creating "goofy"
bleeps and lofi techno. also, it depends on your
definition of sounds and goofy, right? 
you can create fat and warm pads with an analogue
modular, but it takes a lot of modules and a lot of
time, indeed.
so, usually, you use VA's, or polyphonic analogue
synths, for that task.
