"obsessive surrealism", with apologies to bakis for the delay -

2007-12-30 by davevosh@aol.com

hello to all -
a month or so back, bakis was kind enough to send me his cd for possible
review on the list. somehow, typically, i got tied up with other things and have
been slowing actually posting anything.
to bakis, i extend my sincerest apologies for the delay !
in the interim, there have been 2 nice reviews done making mine mostly
obsolete. what i thought i`d do is just add a few comments from my notes :

like one of the reviewers, i noted a certain "john carpenter-esque feeling"
to some of the pieces. i certainly didn`t find it objectionable tho it did
leave me wondering if this was something intentional meant as personal
acknowledgement / respect or just one of those coincidental cultural references that
occur occasionally - ?

tracks 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were my overall favorites.

drum / rhythm tracks were nicely done, staying interesting enough not to
descend into "beat".

overall production of the cd was very good tho the ambience was just a bit
too "dark" for my personal taste, a bit of high end eq would have helped.

electronic sounds were all well concieved and executed. nicely done.

very different from the electro-noise improv that i do here but a very, very
good recording. it had a certain smooth flowing quality that makes it very
nice to listen to. while not the best enviroment for listening to it, it has
been a pretty constant "car cd" for me getting a lot of listening time.

a definite "buy" notice on this one -

best,
dave
