Flipping some modules around...

2008-03-15 by James Husted

I recently got a used A-144 Morf Controller and my second AS RS-220
Joystick from Analogue Haven and was glad to see the joystick was as
pictured on the Analogue Haven site. This newer one is flipped 180
degrees from the other one I have which I had to mount upside down and
rewired to work the way I want. The picture on the AS site is still
the older one (except for the one shown on only one of their keyboard
rigs - the french connection). The reason I had to turn it upside down
is that my Doepfer rig is currently a dual portable rack setup (soon
to be three) and I almost always play it with the cabinets either on
their backs or leaning at an angle. Like the Doepfer joystick the
older design RS-220 had all the patch cords at the bottom of the
module, right where your hands want to lay while playing it at a
angle. I have brought this up before but with the introduction of the
Monster Base Frame which has a horizontal surface for mounting modules
this bubbled to the surface of my mind again. I will soon be buying a
pair of A-164-1 to lay next to my joysticks and will have to mount
them upside down too for the same reasons. I know it cost to have
multiple versions of modules but is it possible for the current and
future "performance" oriented modules come in 2 versions - one 180
degree rotated from the other? Currently the only Doepfer modules that
I think would benefit from this treatment are the A-161-a and the
A-174 but this should be considered in future modules of this type
(like mod wheel modules etc.).
