I have the book and it's a good though somewhat dated (1972) overview of electronic music. It is not a practical guide though, so maybe not what you are looking for. Anything will help understanding and patching though. People have recommended the Arp 2600 manual which is available somewhere on the net, so that might be a path to follow.
