I think we answered this somewhere else in this forum... anyway... tnecessary I dont know, 
but they are practical for triggering many things or creating kinda on/off events like for 
examples you can use them in combination with A166 logic module (I really like that) to 
create random events, if the clock in of the a149-1 is slow you can create very rarely 
happening events, the digit voltages can be used to trigger ADSR, switch A150, reset 
LFO's, even if a few combine to create rythmical random patterns for VCOs...

its really lots of things to do with these...
