Mr. Doepfer ended up answering me elsewhere, so I though I would post 
his answer here for the archives:

If you choose the pre version you can create a mix (appearing at the A-
128
output) with the A-128 controls without affecting the levels of the
individual outputs. I personally would prefer this version as it's more
flexible from my point of view (but we also had customers who wanted to 
have
the post version). If you choose the post version the level of each
individual output is affected by the corresponding A-128 control. After 
all
you have to decide what you prefer in your application.

P.S. We even had customers who ordered both, i.e. 30 single: 15 pre and 
15
post.
