Re: Proposed A-154

2002-11-12 by ringmod45

hi Ethan, i tend to agree with you, i like the fact that A154 will be
feature rich. i, too, would rather see a more modular approach to the
sequencer concept. but, with the current modules available in the
Doepfer format, it would be unneccessary to make the A154 less
feature intensive. the a155's were not designed to be part of a
modular sequencer setup or format. they were designed as standalone
sequencers with a few other modules to exist with. had they been
designed with more modular feaures, the need for the A154 would
unneccessary.

the A154 is, an in between, combination of functions module that will
solve a few dilemmas for the A155's and bring VC analog stage
address, different run modes, linking 2 A155 together, clock pwm and vc
clock to the mix. so in this particular case, it is very desirable
and neccessary to have more features included.

i think having an extra jack output for a simple Decay style envelope
generator on board, where the pulse width of the clock controls the
decay, is a bonus feature that would cut the number of patchcords,
save space for your rack and free up that other EG you going to use
for short percussive style sounds to do more useful modulation
effects.

remember, sometimes you can overpopulate a module, but you also have
to look at the benefits that would arise from combining and adding
extra features and functions to them.

the A154 came about from a few suggestions that were interesting to
the members of the group and Doepfer. after some suggestions from
Mr.Doepfer and the groups members, different layouts were designed
and proposed, again group members made more suggestions and the
module is pretty close to its functions and layout, the developement
and prototype stage will soon begin. All this was possible due to the
efforts of Mr.Doepfer and the group members to discuss and idealize
the proposed A154 module. Same goes for the A107, although not quite
as finished as the A154. i would also like to see more of this type
of exchange for the proposed Touch Keyboard Sequencer and some
Doepfer sponsored polls to create an Uber TKS.

i must say, that, this is a very constructive way to bring new A100
modules in the into the A100 system. anytime discussion and ideas are
exchanged, it will only benefit the A100. i would like to thank
Mr.Doepfer and the Doepfer gang, Bakis and the rest of the group
members who participated in the A107 and A154 polls and discussions
for realization of these soon to be modules. looking foward to new
module developements and discussions.

regards,
RM
