I cannot judge at the moment, whether the housing is connected to the signal ground. Basically there is no need for that, as there is no connection between the (signal- and housing-) ground and the earth/ground of your wall outlets. There is no need for because the R2M uses a wall wart. There is no hi voltage inside the device. > Does the ground uses the “tip” of the cable? It does not use the tip, but either the "shaft" or the "ring". In fact: It is defined as to use the shaft, but it assumes the shaft of a mono jack, which reaches up to the "ring" position of the stereo jack. Some Doepfer modules are equipped with Cliff sockets. Those sockets have there shaft-contact at the position, where a stereo-jack has its "ring". There is nothing wrong with it, as it relies on using mono-cables. > > The MS20 also shows a 1/4 female jack labelled “GND": how do I use > this? And is it always the tip providing the connection? This is a big misunderstanding opf the MS-20. This symbol means, that the socket will switch the tip to ground, when the corresponding function is active. Example: https://www.muziker.de/image/2/0039/9lan.ms20mini_detail4_jpg.jpg In the low right corner is a socket which is connected to the push button aside the keyboard. The "GND"-symbol means: "The tip of a cable that is plugged in here will be shortcut to ground, as soon as you press the button". This is the function of a so called switched trigger. (connect this socket with the MS-20s trigger-in-socket and you will be able to trigger a note). Florian http://www.florian-anwander.de
