Doepfer

I agree with ps_minor about the build quality.  You could use the 
controller as a means of self defense.  I take mine with me whenever 
I travel at night.

As for comparing the A198 to a Moog ribbon controller, in what way do 
you mean, and which controller?  The 956, or the controller meant for 
the Minimoog?

As for size, the Moog controller is much bulkier.  The controls on 
the Moog are slightly more limited than the Doepfer (i.e. the A198 
has two gate outs, as well as pressure).  Also, I find the Doepfer to 
be slightly smoother in response, but this really shouldn't be that 
shocking because the Moog controller was manufactured in the 1970s (I 
think it was 74 actually), and components have progressed quite a bit 
since then.

At the end of the day, it would be best to A-B them and form your own 
opinion.  If you're a collector, the Moog 956 will be more to your 
liking.  If you're looking for a controller that will see regular 
use, my call is the A198, if for no other reason you can get it fixed 
if a problem arrises... and the LEDs.  Yes, the LEDs.
