the pll is good if you like unusual patching ;-)
it is of course a square vco, but it's tracking is so
strange that it can't be used like a normal vco.
it is great for special effects and other unusual
sound manglings. feeding a standard square wave into the
input of the pll, you can obtain a gliding square wave
for example. this gliding square wave can be used with
a ringmodulator together with another waveform of the
original vco, or you can use it to create gliding fm
modulations. the possibilities seem to be endless, if you
are looking for harsh and mad sounds. also keep in mind that
you don't need to use a square wave only to make some use of it.
one thing i really like is feeding percussion into the pll and
using the output of the phase comparator as an audio signal.
great is when you also have an a171 vc slew limiter. using
this module instead of the built-in lowpass filter can give
even better results.

another thing is frequency multiplication, as stated in the manual.

i know that the sense of a pll is hard to understand, but if you
are on the experimental side, you will have loads of fun with it,
especially when you have additional modules to tame the output
of the pll ;-)
