The basic idea behind using the XLRs was, to have a simple power switch, 
which cannot be switched off by mistake, while carrying the system. It 
was a short step to use the connectors for connecting the charger to the 
  accumulators or the normal power supply to the busboard.

But you always have to keep in mind, that changing the power supply will 
have consequences for the oct/voltage setting. I decided for now to use 
the accumulator based setup for non-tonal work.
