And Peter is talking about the tension on the two little plates that create contact between the tip and sleeve of the plug. Sometimes the older "flawed" jacks do not create enough tension and you end up wiggling around your patch cord until the connection is made and you have signal flowing. The "quick" fix is pressing down on the plates with the head of a standard screw driver. Matthew
