Yes, this is true, though only one method.

But that's half analogue and half digital...and one
must pay careful attention to the gain stage to make
it sound good cause BBDs can be kinda "blah" in
general. Lo-fi, though I'm into that...

The problem with digital is latency, especially when
working via CV (conversions). I have a "simpler"
(takes up more space though), analogue approach but
with a commercial design already in "prototype" I
don't think it'd be appropriate to share such a
circuit.

But I'll give you a hint, if you care to do some
research, look at some old radio equipment.
