What does the Buchla 259 sound like?

2004-08-07 by mritenburg

I have a some short samples made on an Ensoniq ASR-10 from Buchla
259s when I was in college. I will try to make the sounds available
in the next day or do.

I like to think of the Buchla 259 as a oscillator on LSD. It is
definately a tool for those wanting to explore the stranger side of
electronic music. I can understand many of Dieter's reservations:
How many people will want this module? Can a 259 style module
actually be engineered based on the old design using modern
ubiquitous components while maintaining the unique qualities that
make the original 259 so desirable? Does it make sense for Doepfer
as a company to offer an oscillator that may be more expensive than
any other module in their catalog? Should Doepfer create a module
that will duplicate many of the functions present in other modules
offered? Does creating a 259 oscillator go against the Doepfer
design principles?

I hope Dieter and Company can find the answer all of these questions
and others they may have. I hope those answer convince them to build
the module.
