hello anders,

the a149-1 generates a random event when you feed a gate signal
into one of the gate inputs, so it is completely up to
you, how often a random event will appear.
the random part of the a118 changes permanently,
so this is probably not what you want.

if you want to smooth the transitions over a very long period,
then you should consider the a170 dual slew limiter.
it doesn't have vc of slew time, but it has a switch for
the time base, just like the a140 adsr. with this you can
get transitions which evolve over several minutes.

i don't have information about the a117 here in the office,
i have to try it in the studio to be able to say more about it.

two additional notes:
the a149-1 only gives you positive values.
if you need them to be negative, then you need 
to add an a175 or a138c or a133.

when i need such very slowly evolving random voltages,
then i often use the combination lfo, slew limiter and
sample&hold. every time when i need a new value i simply
trigger the sample&hold. the actual lfo value is sampled
and then slewed by an a170. this solution gives both
positive and negative values.
