Doepfer

Hi all,

I know have many synths, but since I'm kind of an analog
freak, I missed out on some good polyphonic, multitimbral
synths. I mean I have the XP10, but midiwise it a bit difficult.
The DX100 is polyphonic, but hasn't proper big keys.
Then there's the prophecy, which keys are big, but the board is
only 3 octaves long, so that left me the AN1x which is then
my best synth for playing. But that leaves me only with one
proper synth, which is by the way also in some ways difficult.
So by accident I landed on the website from the music
shop Feedback here in the Netherlands, who had some great
synths for really cheap prices.
Of course I would have chosen the Nordlead rack2 immediately,
when it had the keys I needed. But it was the rack version.
Then I saw for the same price of 499 euro for the Novation KS4.

I read all I could about this synth, especially the sound
on sound review and what users on forums had to say.
I found a lot of hostility towards these synths, so I became
a bit worried. Still I couldn't believe that an reliable
company like Novation, which released classic synths like
Nova and Supernova, would deliver a crap synth!

So I ordered this synth and since yesterday it's giving me
a lot of pleasure.
So far I can't give any negative comment. It's sounds superb,
what a bass power, looks great and functions excellent.
I love the way the knobs move, the display is broad enough
to see the most important settings.
So this synth is not build of bad material, oke it's not build
like a tank, like my Teisco, but it's strong enough that's for sure.
I haven't encountered no nasty clicks so far.
And again I love the liquid analog sound. Superb basses, tick, smooth
strings, excellent imitator (like PPG wave2). It's also a perfect
synth for experimental stuff, since you have 3 oscillators which
work totally independent. Incredible, you can give each oscillator
his one octave height, own detune and semi tune. Each lfo (there are 2)
also can influence each oscillator!!!

Concerning my music in development. I left the melodies and hit the
soundscapes department. That's where I'm mostly good at, so why don't persue
that avenue? I know this synth will give the sounds I need for my
new composition I'm working on. Beside of course my pride and glory
the A-100, who know delivers the complex soundscapes which from the basis
for my new composition.
