more a101/2 examples

2004-10-07 by selfoscillate

hello all,

zoran requested more examples of the a101/2.
i couldn't resist to do some additional snaps
to make comparison of the modes easier, but
i only made examples with sawtooth waves.
i have to admit that i've overlooked the request
for square wave examples, but i think that
the files with sawtooth waves already draw
a good picture of the lpg behaviour.

all files are 45 kb in size and loopable.

i used an a111 sawtooth wave at the
a101/2 audio input and an a140 envelope
at the a101/2 cv1 input.

general settings for all examples:

a101/2 f/a = 0 , audio in = 5
a140 att = 0 , sust = 0 , rel = 0 , range = m

part 1:
a140 decay = 2
a101/2 res = 0 lp+vca mode

part 2:
a140 decay = 2
a101/2 res = 0 lp mode

part 3:
a140 decay = 2
a101/2 res = 0 vca mode

http://www.selfoscillate.de/a100files/a101-2-part3.mp3

part 4:
a140 decay = 5
a101/2 res = 0 lp+vca mode

http://www.selfoscillate.de/a100files/a101-2-part4.mp3

part 5:
a140 decay = 5
a101/2 res = 0 vca mode

http://www.selfoscillate.de/a100files/a101-2-part5.mp3

part 6:
a140 decay = 2
a101/2 res = 8 lp mode

http://www.selfoscillate.de/a100files/a101-2-part6.mp3

the next three parts are recorded without an
a101/2. i used other vca's for comparison
with the a101/2 in vca mode.

part 7:
a140 decay = 2
a131 was used instead

part 8:
a140 decay = 5
a131 was used instead

http://www.selfoscillate.de/a100files/a101-2-part8-a131.mp3

part 9:
a140 decay = 2
a132 was used instead

enjoy :-)

an important note about the vactrols in general:
vactrols have tolerances, especially the resonance
behaviour can vary. this is not important in the
standard buchla mode (no resonance). however, with the
resonance turned up, you may discover that your lpg
sounds different to the one i've recorded. this is
normal and a part of the deal. some vactrols have a
fat self oscillation over the whole frequency band,
others will have a less voluminous self oscillation
and only over a smaller range of frequencies.
in contrast these with the weaker self oscillation
have a more cleaner sound with less distortion,
which can also be a benefit.

anyway, when using the a101/2 without resonance (like
the original buchla 292), the differences of the
vactrols are barely noticable.

best wishes
