hello,

several years ago i owned an akai s612 with floppy drive,
but when the a112 came out i sold the s612 to a very
good friend. afaik the s612 cannot save samples via midi dump,
only via floppy drive. the drive needs those double sided
2 inch discs which are very rare by now, and they
are not very reliable. also the disc capacity is a laugh,
only one sample per side.

i agree that the s612 is an interesting device, because
you can adjust the sample/loop start and end via sliders.
but on the other hand the a112 is much more versatile and
powerful. it has a lot more features and the wavetable
mode alone makes it a thousand times better than the s612
in my opinion.

i don't think that the s612 can be modified in an easy way
to have cv/gate inputs, but it is a nice piece of equipment
for collectors, because it was the first affordable sampler
on the market. and afaik it was designed by the man behind ems.

anyway, if s612 and a112 would compete, then the a112 would
win the battle easily (at least for me and i had both).
