yesterday i tried to compare the
moogerfooger mf103 phaser in 12-stage
mode with the 6-stage phaser a125,
just like you suggested.

in a 6-stage phaser you have 3 peak frequencies.
in a 12-stage phaser you have 6 peak frequencies.
this also has an effect on the bandwidth of the
peaks, therefore the phasing effect is more
recognisable and direct on the a125. the mf103
sounds more "elegant" and polished in 12-stage mode.

with the resonance turned up the a125 seems to
have a bit more guts, you can adjust it to
higher amounts than on the mf103. on the other
hand the mf103 has a somewhat different sounding
resonance, you can clearly hear that the signal
has more peaks, giving the resonance a different
character, really really nice.

the mf103 and a125 are very different when
they were overdriven. the a125 gets louder and
louder while the mf103 stays at the same volume
level and starts to show warm distortions.

i've used the built-in mf103 lfo also to modulate
the a125 phaser, no problems here, the a125 can
be swept with the same freqeuncies as the mf103.

it is a bit difficult to say, which phaser is
the better choice afterwards. the mf103 sounds
more "expensive" and "high class", while the a125
sounds more direct and "in the face".

as a patch-maniac i'd prefer the a101/3 vactrol phaser
anyway, but thats another story ;-)
