I just wanted to add to this thread:

I used to have modified SH-101, and part of modification was external input. 
So, I plugged A-111 into it, and I could not hear any difference! And we 
know that there is a same oscillator chip in A-111, and SH-101 (3340). So, 
that proves to me that A-111 can sound fantastic. Well, finding right filter 
for it is another story...

I ended up selling that SH-101, because I did not like the main modification 
on it, and that was filter FM (all these modifications are also known as 
Novamod for SH-101). And I was conviced that modifying MC-202 with external 
input would produce the same result (same filter chip). What a mistake!  But 
I am not giving up yet :-)

Conclusion (more for me than anybody else): keep your instrument. It will 
always excell in one thing, and fail slightly in another.
