Quite true. Each has something in their favor. Although, I'm not exactly building a frankensynth. My Dotcom and Modcan systems are separate systems of fairly good size. I am currently setting up a new studio space which will soon allow them to share electrons for the first time. My criteria for selecting my list was to use the most esoteric modules to create a stand-alone synth within space of a A-100G6. However, when I get my Doepfer system, I'm sure that, like most modulars, it will continue to expand until it consumes all available space and money.
