Doepfer

hi folks-
i was fortunate enough to just recently complete my humble doepfer 
system.  i made a few alterations of which i've posted photos on this 
group in a folder called "borax."
one thing i wanted to do was put in a rainbow of LEDs throughout the 
modules, so i soldered 10 new LEDs, various yellow, green, white and 
blue amongst the red ones.  some of the LEDs were too tricky to try 
to redo so i left them be.  the a152 in particular really looks cool 
with the new color scheme.  
in the photos you may also notice that i painted the case to brighten 
things up and i also drilled a small hole for the reverb cable, so 
the tank may sit atop the the case.  i didn't want a big ugly hole so 
i spliced and re-soldered the reverb cable outside of the small hole.
i considered sheilding the tank and screwing it into the inside of 
the case as was discussed on this forum earlier, but i decided i may 
want to "play" the springs, a very fun sound imho, so i figured no 
hum and access to the springs made outside the case the best option.  
there is no hum at all....it sounds great.  i think it's very do-able 
to have reverb in the suitcase.

i thought i'd post also my brief thoughts on the new-ish modules i 
bought...because there are often people here wondering.....

firstly, i love the a152.  i think this will just open one up to 
fully wacky stuff.  i've created some beligerent little organisms 
already with this one. something one could do is sweep the adress 
with a foot controller or theremin (i'm using my paia theremax cv 
outs, see photo in my folder).  you could use a multiple to split the 
cv, so the signal that controls the address and also goes into the 
multiplexer or t&h, and put all 8 outputs into different modules in 
the signal path.  the possibilities are endless with this module.  
fantastic!

i love a real nasal tone, many of which i've been dialing up with the 
a137.  i think all the fuss over this module is justified.  this 
module can easily turn my theremin into charlie brown's teacher.  
also a very effective mangler of lfo waves..... i think generally 
speaking this is more interesting than the distortion/waveshaper 
module (which i like a lot).  

i also got the quad adsr.  yet another great tool for doing weird 
shit!  the really wide time ranges, the digital outputs and the 
psuedo lfos make this a very hard worker, and not at all boring once 
you daisy chain the envelopes or get them all looping off of each 
other in strange ways.

lastly but not leastly the a196 PLL is a nasty little guy.  if you 
want really grating f-ed up noise you can get it with this.  it is 
possible to get a somewhat acurate pitch tracking, but most often it 
just howls trying figure out how to follow your licks...which is fine 
by me.  there are some very peircing digtal effects that can be had 
here.  and just plain old nasal (my fave) licks a plenty.

so that's that.

LEDs?  i realize it is a non-musical obsession of mine.
