Perhaps the MPU "translates" the velocity value in the voltage level of 
the gate impuls (this would be a dream for e-drums!). Try what happens 
if you set the velocity to MIDI-Value short above 0 (1 or 5)

If the MPU does not produce a trigger in teh A-100 I might be right.
