i sadly note from the doepfer webpage that the prototype a173 spaceball DOES 
NOT show a gate output.  hopefully, this can be added before production 
starts !
take a look at the a197 - i`ve been waiting for this to become available 
since last year and it DOES include the requisite gate outputs making it far 
more useful for my purposes
ribbon controller is nice but i`d have preferred a more traditional 
"bandmanual" design. then again, the ribbon will essentially work the same 
way and i`m sure it eases production difficulties tremendously.
