A-190 response to held notes

2005-08-18 by okiikahuna

I love my Doepfer setupp and really have very little to gripe
about. However, my A-190 has always bothered me because of the way
it responds to receiving more than one note at a time. If I play
one note one the keyboard, press a second note while still holding
the first and then release the second note while still holding the
first, the gate signal will cut off and the note CV will stay at the
second note.
This is different from the way analog monosynths react, and also
different from the way every other digital synth I own reacts when
in mono mode. On every other analog and digital synth, when the
second note is released, the note CV will revert to the held first
note, and the gate will stay on until the first note is released.
The way the 190 reacts makes it difficult to play and often
forces me to use another midi to CV box. This is a pity, because
everything else about the 190 is so well thought out and well geared
toward keyboard playing.
Maybe this is because the 190 was one of the first modules to be
released. Is there any chance that this could one day be updated in
the firmware for the unit? Would changing this be a big job? Has
there already been an update I don't know about?
