Doepfer

Just to add a little more to my own last post, here is an idea I've 
been playing with a lot: Assuming you want to use the sequencer to 
control pitch: You set up an eight note phrase on the eight stsps 
(the A-156 makes this easier but is not necessary)  Now, clock the A-
149-1 Quantized random section from one of the trigger rows which is 
set to send a gate out only on step 8 (alternatively, send the clock 
to the A-160 and clock the A-149-1 from the /8 output).  Adjust the 
if the manual mode is set to "backw" you can set the CV attenuator 
in such a way that the A-149 output will select forward, backward 
pendulum or randome in various random ways. Send the A-149 output to 
the mode cv input. send the sequencer VC to an oscilator, etc. as 
always.  Now you will have your phrase played forward. backward, 
etc.  Things get more interesting if you also add various CVs to the 
first and last note selection. and add some kind of randomizing to 
the gate inputs to your VCA or VCF envelopes. Now you will start to 
get various fragments of your phrase played in various non-repeating 
ways that always have some relation to your original phrase. You can 
add VC of phrase density by the old trick of sampling the output of
a random voltage generator with a sample & hold clocked with your 
sequencer clock, sending the resulting clocked random voltages to a 
mixer, and mixing with a fixed voltage and some kind of control 
voltage, sending the output of the mixer to the CV input of the A-
150 VCS and using the VCS to gate the sequencer clock and using that 
output to trigger the VCA and VCF.  Great fun.
